Hey! My name’s Fatima, the owner and founder of The Saree Top. Thanks for visiting - it's great to have you here.
I designed The Saree Top to bring together the best of Eastern and Western fashion and to create something beautiful that all women can feel stunning in.
I grew up in Manchester and developed an eye for fashion through my parents’ 45-year clothing manufacturing and wholesale business. Understanding fabric quality, fit and incoming fashion trends was part of everyday life for me.
I loved wearing both Western clothing and South Asian couture. On the one hand, I regularly shopped for dresses, tops and trousers from brands such as Reiss and Karen Millen — and on the other, I wore Sarees at family events and special occasions, including a stunning ice-blue one at my sister’s wedding.
The idea to create The Saree Top flowed naturally from who I am — a blend of both Eastern and Western cultures. Growing up, I often felt as though I lived two separate lives, switching each cultural part of myself on and off depending on the occasion.
For me, this was a shame — because in my experience, there’s a real sense of beauty, fulfilment and completion in embracing both cultures together. East and West complement each other in so many ways, and my hope is that The Saree Top allows all women to experience this whilst feeling luxuriously beautiful at the same time.
The Saree Top took five years to bring to life — from concept drawings (no, not in a clichè garage, but in my living room), to design, to fabric selection, sampling and bulk production. My biggest challenge was finding a manufacturer who could honour both influences: the Western-based top, with its perfect fit and flattering cut — and the saree-inspired flow, which needed to look and feel authentic.
